JINEN Garden Project with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice

In Tono Mirai’s earthen architectural work “Regenerative Forest – JINEN”, which is currently being exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the dune plant ecosystem is reproduced as a “JINEN” garden. The aim of this project is to evoke the preservation of biodiversity and the recovery of the coastal ecosystem in the Veneto.

This garden project is implemented thanks to a collaboration with University Ca’ Foscari of Venice and Green Wise Italy. Being advised by Professor Gabriella Buffa of the Department of Environment, who heads also the Life REDUNE project, which aims to preserve the biodiversity and ecosystems of  the Venetian coast, Green Wise Italy has designed a JINEN garden that symbolises the dune plant ecosystem, the “forest” of Venice.

The growth of the plants during the exhibition and the return of the plants to the dunes at the end of the exhibition will be documented in a video, which will be widely shared on various occasions to raise awareness around the world of the importance of biodiversity and ecosystems.
